General Questions

What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy healing that promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Originating in Japan, it involves the transfer of universal life force energy through the hands of a trained Reiki practitioner. This energy helps clear blockages, balance the body’s energy centres, and support the body’s natural healing processes. Reiki is commonly used for stress relief, anxiety reduction, pain management, and chakra alignment, offering a holistic approach to wellness and inner harmony. You don’t need to believe in Reiki for it to be effective. Reiki healing works by channelling universal life force energy to support the body’s natural healing processes, regardless of your beliefs. While an open mind can enhance the experience, many people report feeling the benefits of Reiki therapy, including stress relief, emotional balance, and deep relaxation, even if they were initially sceptical. The energy flows where it’s needed most, helping to restore harmony and balance within the body’s energy system.

Yes, Reiki is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive form of energy healing suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. It complements traditional medical treatments and is often used alongside other holistic therapies to support physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Reiki therapy does not involve any manipulation or pressure, making it ideal for individuals with chronic pain, anxiety, or sensitivity to touch. Whether you’re seeking Reiki for stress relief, emotional healing, or chakra balancing, it offers a natural and risk-free way to promote relaxation and inner harmony.

Reiki healing can support a wide range of physical, emotional, and spiritual issues by promoting the body’s natural ability to restore balance and well-being. Commonly used for stress relief, anxiety reduction, and emotional healing, Reiki therapy can also help with chronic pain, insomnia, fatigue, and tension. Many people turn to Reiki for chakra alignment, trauma recovery, and support during times of grief or life transitions. It’s also used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional treatments for conditions like depression, fertility challenges, and even cancer support, providing a calming, holistic approach to wellness.

Yes, Reiki therapy is a safe, complementary practice that can be used alongside conventional medical treatments to support holistic healing. Many individuals integrate Reiki healing into their care plans to help manage stress, reduce anxiety, and promote emotional and physical balance during recovery. Reiki does not interfere with medications or clinical procedures and is often used to support patients dealing with chronic pain, cancer, surgery recovery, or emotional trauma. By encouraging relaxation and energy balance, Reiki can enhance overall well-being and improve the body’s natural healing response.

The main difference between in-person and distance Reiki lies in the method of delivery, but both forms are equally effective in promoting energy healing, stress relief, and emotional balance. In-person Reiki sessions involve the practitioner placing their hands directly on or just above the client’s body to channel healing energy. Distance Reiki, also known as remote Reiki healing, allows the practitioner to send Reiki energy across time and space, making it ideal for those who cannot attend in person. Both methods support chakra alignment, emotional healing, and deep relaxation, with clients often reporting similar sensations and benefits. Find out more about Distance Reiki in our blog post Distance Reiki: How It Works and Why It’s Just as Powerful

Distance Reiki healing works by using intention and focus to channel universal life force energy to a recipient, regardless of their physical location. Reiki practitioners are trained to connect energetically with clients through techniques that transcend time and space, allowing the same healing benefits as an in-person Reiki session. This form of Reiki therapy is ideal when in-person visits aren’t possible. Clients often report sensations of warmth, calm, and energetic shifts during distance Reiki, demonstrating its ability to support the body’s natural healing process from afar. The number of Reiki healing sessions needed varies depending on your individual goals, condition, and response to the therapy. Some people experience noticeable benefits after just one Reiki session, while others may benefit from regular treatments to support ongoing healing or manage chronic issues like anxiety, fatigue, or pain. Reiki therapy is a gentle, cumulative process, and a series of sessions is generally recommended as it can deepen the effects and promote lasting energy balance.

The effects of Reiki healing can be both immediate and gradual, depending on the individual and their specific needs. Many people report feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and emotionally balanced right after a Reiki session, experiencing immediate relief from stress or tension. For others, the benefits of Reiki therapy, such as improved sleep, emotional healing, or chakra alignment, may unfold over several days or through a series of sessions. Reiki supports the body’s natural healing processes, so whether the effects are subtle or more pronounced, the energy continues to work gently over time to restore balance and well-being.

No, Reiki is not a form of massage or physical therapy, although it shares some of the calming and restorative benefits of both. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice that works on a subtle level to support emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Unlike massage, which involves direct physical manipulation of muscles and tissues, Reiki is typically performed with the hands placed lightly on or just above the body, without any pressure or movement.

Reiki differs from these approaches because it works with the body’s energy system. Practitioners channel universal life force energy through their hands to help clear energetic blockages, rebalance the body’s natural flow, and encourage the body’s own healing processes. Because of its gentle nature, Reiki is particularly well-suited for those who may not be comfortable with touch or who have health conditions that make massage or physical therapy challenging. It complements other therapies well and is increasingly offered in holistic wellness centres, hospitals, and hospices as a form of emotional and energetic support.

In essence, while Reiki is not massage or physical therapy, it stands alongside them as a supportive, calming practice, helping people to relax deeply, relieve stress, and find balance in both body and mind. Reiki is not affiliated with any religion or specific belief system, making it accessible to people of all backgrounds. It is a spiritual, yet non-religious, energy healing practice that works by channelling universal life force energy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Reiki therapy does not require any particular faith or belief to be effective.

Yes, children and teenagers can safely receive Reiki healing, and many benefit greatly from its gentle, non-invasive approach. Reiki therapy helps young people manage stress, anxiety, emotional challenges, and even sleep issues by promoting relaxation and energy balance. Sessions for children are typically shorter and adapted to their comfort level, using light touch or hands-above techniques to deliver calming, supportive energy. Reiki is also effective for emotional healing during periods of growth or transition, offering a holistic tool to support their overall well-being.

I am certified in both Reiki Level 1 and Level 2, which means I’ve completed formal training in hands-on and distance Reiki techniques. My practice is rooted in the traditional Usui method, and I continue to deepen my understanding through experience and ongoing learning. These levels allow me to offer Reiki sessions both in person and remotely, depending on what suits you best.

Most of my Reiki sessions take place during the daytime, typically between 9 am and 5 pm. However, I do offer a later session on Tuesdays, starting at 6:30 pm. If your schedule doesn’t fit within these times, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m always happy to discuss alternative options and do my best to accommodate your needs.

All of my In-Person Reiki sessions take place in my Reiki studio in Bomere Heath, just outside Shrewsbury. When you book any of my In-Person sessions or packages, I will email you the exact address. We have plenty of free parking spaces both on the street and on the drive.

Experience & Results

What can I expect during a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session, you can expect a calming, restorative experience designed to promote deep relaxation and energy balance. You’ll typically lie fully clothed on a treatment table while a trained Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on or just above your body. The practitioner channels healing energy to areas where it’s needed most, helping to clear energy blockages and restore harmony within the body. Many people report sensations of warmth, tingling, or a deep sense of peace during Reiki therapy. Sessions are often used for stress relief, emotional healing, pain reduction and chakra balancing. Find out more in our blog post What Really Happens During a Reiki Session?

To get the most out of your Reiki healing session, it’s best to arrive feeling relaxed and open to the experience. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to help promote relaxation during your Reiki therapy. Avoid heavy meals, alcohol, or caffeine right before your appointment, as these can interfere with your body’s energy flow. Take a few moments beforehand to set an intention or reflect on any emotional or physical concerns you’d like to address. Whatever your intention, approaching the session with a calm and receptive mindset enhances its benefits.

For a Reiki healing session, it’s best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to relax fully during the treatment. Reiki therapy is a non-invasive, hands-on or hands-above energy healing practice performed while you remain fully clothed, so choose soft, breathable fabrics and avoid restrictive or bulky items. Since Reiki promotes deep relaxation and stress relief, dressing comfortably enhances the overall experience. You may also want to remove shoes, belts, and heavy jewellery before the session to allow for better energy flow.

After a Reiki healing session, many people report feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and emotionally balanced. Some experience a sense of lightness, mental clarity, or gentle tingling as the body continues to process the energy work. Reiki therapy supports the body’s natural healing processes, so it’s not uncommon to feel energised, centred, or even tired as your system rebalances. Reiki is often used for stress relief, chakra alignment, and emotional healing, so post-session effects can vary depending on your individual needs. Drinking water and allowing time for rest can help enhance the benefits of your treatment.

Falling asleep during a Reiki healing session is completely normal and often a sign that your body is deeply relaxed and open to receiving energy. Reiki therapy continues to work effectively whether you’re awake or asleep. Many clients find that drifting off allows them to let go of tension more fully, enhancing the benefits of the treatment. Sleep is simply another state of receptivity, and the universal life force energy will still flow to where it’s needed most.

At the start of an In-Person session, we’ll have a quick chat so you can share how you’re feeling and if there’s anything you’d like to focus on. Then you’ll lie down fully clothed on a treatment table (or sit comfortably in a chair if you prefer), and I’ll gently place my hands on or just above your body in a series of positions. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, often with soft music. Most people find it deeply relaxing, you might feel warmth, tingling, or just a general sense of peace. After the session, we can take a moment to talk about anything you experienced or any questions you might have.

A Distance Reiki session is very similar except that you receive your Reiki in the comfort of your own home.
